Luke Holland Drum Recording!

Posted by on Nov 13, 2012 in Blog Update, Uncategorized | 0 comments

Pyramix Studios welcomed drummer Luke Holland from the band “The Word Alive” in last week  for some drum tracking with Engineers H.B. Abels. The tracks for some of Luke’s new drum videos filmed by Jeremy Tremp. Luke Recorded his versions of songs by such diverse artists as Underoath, Ellie Goulding, Paramore and more.

We left the kit setup as later in the week we recorded 3 songs for Alex Chacon’s (Downfall) upcoming solo record! So it was a lot of drum tracking! Luke has amazing playing chops and great showmanship!

H.B. went all out with micing the kit: We used an Audix D6 for the inside kick mic and switched back and forth between an AKG D112 and a Sennheiser 421 for the outside of the kick depending on the song, Toms were mic’d top and bottom (with the phase flipped on the bottom mics) To capture the snare 3 mics were used a Shure SM 57 on top with a small diaphragm condenser mic also on top. The bottom of the snare was captured with an AKG C414.

There L, R and Center Overheads consisting of more AKG C414’s, a pair of Royer 121 ribbon mics for rooms, and small diaphragm condenser mics on the hat and ride cymbals.

Take a look at some behind the scenes photos of the Luke Holland drum recording session and video shoot taken courtesy of Rebecca Martos from Culture Media.

Upgraded Exterior to Pyramix Studios Phoenix Location!

Posted by on Jul 17, 2012 in Blog Update | 0 comments

Times might be tough, but here at Pyramix Studios we are gearing up for the “Great Recovery” with major renovations to the courtyard and ground level structures. Phase 1 is now complete giving our support facilities building a new streamlined look while adding about 350 square feet of new utility space.

Work is already underway for phases 2 & 3 which will include wider roads, covered parking, landscaping and an enclosed 16 seat bar in close proximity to The Pyramid with direct 2 way communication to the control room. This will provide recording artists a great spot to enjoy some fresh air between takes and even give us the ability to record some tracks outside to capture the vibe and energy next to the Pyramid!
